Generally, our area sets printing to Hostname rather than IP. Unless the IP is below 30 in the assigned IP range. Host printing allows from printing over wifi, and wired network as well as remote print (if on vpn).. However depending on age of printer and how it is setup, it doesn't always work. In which case you use IP.
